MIKAEL GRAY FROM NEWZEALAND
Hi, I’m Mike Gray, a 67 year old Englishman living
in New Zealand. I had been on the waiting list here
for eighteen months for bilateral hip surgery. I was
at the point of deciding to pay for private surgery
to have total hip replacements when I discovered ‘Hip
Resurfacing’. After enquiring I found that this
technique has barely been heard of in New Zealand and
is not available.
Surfing the internet I discovered several sites offering
hip resurfacing but the one that impressed me most was

In my researches I discovered that Dr Bala has the highest
credentials having been trained in the UK by the surgeons
who invented the technique and has performed the operation
many times. He has also held many senior hospital positions
during his nine years in the UK.
My partner and I travelled to Coimbatore.
We were taken care of from the moment we landed in India,
and given the use of a spacious two roomed apartment
with kitchen and bathroom within the hospital.
I had my first operation on 9th March,
my second on 21st. I walked two miles four days after
my second operation and my only problem was my muscles
ached after all the exercise because I haven’t
been able to walk that far for a couple of years.
I cannot praise Dr Bala and his team
too highly. They were wonderful, including the nurses,
and the whole episode was a very uplifting experience.
Dr. Bala is a very likeable man and we were sorry to
say goodbye at the end.
His fees, which included all hospital
care, drugs, physio and use of the apartment were a
lot cheaper than others and less than half what two
total hip replacements would have cost in New Zealand.
We are now back home only a month after
my first operation.
I feel so lucky ,first, that I found
out about the hip resurfacing technique in the nick
of time before being compelled to have total hip replacements
and, second, that I found Dr Bala. I would recommend
him to anyone needing hip surgery.
